After the unprecedented blackout in Spain and Portugal, we learnt how vulnerable our interconnected energy systems can be in the face of sudden disruptions, and questions quickly arose about how we can make Europe’s energy grid more resilient and reliable.
For that reason, today, we present CEF Energy, the energy-focused component of the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), a key funding instrument supporting the development of high-performing, sustainable, and interconnected trans-European energy infrastructure.
With a new call worth €600 million, CEF Energy’s primary aim is to accelerate the EU’s transition to a clean, secure, and integrated energy market, in line with the European Green Deal and the Union’s decarbonisation objectives for 2030 and 2050.
