The European Innovation Council (EIC) has published the second draft of the Work Programme for 2027. These are the most relevant updates for the EIC Accelerator, Pathfinder and Transition!
For the EIC Pathfinder
- Introduction of a two-stage evaluation process for the EIC Pathfinder Open call, combining a short application with a full proposal for shortlisted applicants,
- interviews and refined award criteria to improve the identification of high-potential breakthrough research.
For the EIC Transition
- it will become a single-beneficiary instrument,
- it will replace the previous small-consortium approach, while allowing the participation of affiliated entities where necessary for the implementation of the project.
For the EIC Accelerator
- Refinements to the evaluation criteria,
- a reserve list mechanism,
- simplified resubmission rules and optimisation of the evaluation calendar through four Accelerator batches,
- four STEP batches and one STEP Defence batch.

Four new dates to submit the full proposal:
- 03/02/2027
- 01/04/2027
- 01/09/2027
- 03/11/2027
EIC Accelerator challenges
The EIC has announced 4 new challenges:
- Advanced in-situ Ocean Observation Technologies for Scalable, High-Resolution Marine Monitoring: €30 million in budget.
- Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities: €50 million.
- Alternative Concepts and Key Enabling Technologies for Fusion Power Plants: €20 million.
- Carbon removal and circularity for climate change mitigation and EU industrial resilience: €50 million.
